Showcase Marquee

XAIR is at the forefront of the spectrum refarming services here in Malaysia. We have successfully deployed numerous refarming services to our clients here in Malaysia. This is evident as we have provided the smooth transition between from 2G to 3G and then again to LTE.

Spectrum re-farming is the process of re-deploying spectrum for a particular service and re-allocating it to another.

In Malaysia, GSM technology works in the frequency band of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz while WCDMA in the 2100 MHz band. Telecom providers in Malaysia use 900 MHz and 1800 MHz band to provide 2G (GSM) and 2.5G (GPRS, EDGE). 3G services are provided over the 2100 MHz.

In light of the increase in demand of 3G services such as internet browsing and video streaming, the 2100 MHz band is no longer sufficient for the telecom providers. Plus the fact that the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands are more efficient than 2100 MHz (2G wavelengths are longer, so it travels further), makes the 2G bands very attractive to deploy high-end services such as 3G over. This re-farming of the 2G spectrum not only increases the network providers’ 3G capacity but also enhances its efficiency.

Another use of spectrum refarming is to deploy a totally new service such as the LTE (4G) over the spectrum that a network operator already owns. In this case, a portion of the operator’s frequency band would be freed up for LTE deployment. In turn, the operator’s 2G services meanwhile would have to be provided over a smaller frequency band.

In this particular project, Xair is to vacate 10 MHz out of 25 MHz for future LTE deployment based on the Spectrum Refarming strategy by the client, Digi Telecommunications Berhad. Using various industrial tools and in-house methodology, Xair is responsible to re-farm Digi’s 1800 MHz frequency spectrum from 25 MHz to 15 MHz for 2G system and free up 10 MHz for LTE deployment and provide end-to-end design solutions. We are responsible for defining and performing the whole Spectrum Refarming Planning, Cell Shaping Implementation, Pre/Post Drive Test, In-Building Walk Test, Repeater Swap and Network Optimization.

Being a vertically integrated electric utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is involved in all the core activities of the electricity business, namely Generation, Transmission and Distribution. TNB’s assets includes power stations, mini hydros, main intake substations as well as distribution substations, overhead transmission lines, underground cables, fiber optic cables and land parcels spread across the length and width of the peninsular. TNB serves approximately 7.3 million customers.

CGIS is envisioned to improve efficiency and reduce operational cost. In addition to serving TNB’s core business of electricity, CGIS is also intended to assist in property management, security, logistics as well as managing TNB’s own fibre optic network. The project will see the development of about 50 prioritized functions across all six divisions as part of 4-Year foundation period of implementation. Along the way, about 40 existing TNB systems are identified to be integrated with CGIS. The incorporation of functionalities for Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Corporate Services, System Planning and ICT divisions make this project a unique GIS implementation worldwide. Assets from TNB’s core divisions of Generation, Transmission and Distribution, property and land information from Corporate Services Division as well as fibre network assets of ICT Division will be made available on a single GIS platform. To efficiently manage the integration of the various existing systems with CGIS, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solution is being used.

Implementing GIS in TNB is considerably complex and challenging due the nature of TNB’s business. Dealing with more than RM 73 billion worth of assets ranging from generation, transmission and distribution assets to managing landed properties and telecommunication infrastructure, CGIS implementation needs very extensive effort to ensure that the objectives of the project are met. In this respect, significant contributors towards the successful implementation of CGIS Year 1 & 2 in TNB are comprehensive planning and effective methodology deployed in formulating the business and functional requirements.

We at Xair are proud to be part of the groundbreaking team that made TNB CGIS a reality.

Xair Networks (XairNet) was established the foundation to become a player in the Telco Infra Leasing in 2010 when they came up with the prototype for a base station site camouflaged as a public phone.

This would later be known as:

  • Picocell on Payphone (POP)

With the obtainment of the Network Facility Provider (NFP) license from MCMC in Feb 2010, Xair proceeded with Proof of Concept (POC) with all 3 telcos whom would eventually gave their nod of approval.

XairNet would later innovated on the POP to come up with 2 more solutions which are the:

  • Picocell at TNB Substation (PAT) – disguised as lightning arrestor
  • Picocell on Streetlight (POS) – camouflaged as streetlight

Xair is one of the concessionaires for the deployment of cellular telecommunication infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur. These telecommunication towers are cleverly camouflaged to look like your run-of-the-mill streetlights.

Hidden behind these mundane streetlights however, are state-of-the-art telecommunication equipment encompassing technologies such as UMTS and LTE.

We are proud to announce that these structures, dubbed the Picocell on Streetlight (POS) are developed in-house by the engineers and designers at Xair.

After their deployment, POS would dramatically increase the coverage and capacity of Kuala Lumpur’s cellular network.

XairNet has all the major telcos as their client (Maxis, Celcom, Digi, P1, Umobile)

Three types of structures (at present):

  • POP : Picocell on Payphone
  • pop1
  • Picocell at TNB Substation
  • pat1
  • POS : Picocell on Streetlight
  • pos1

Our R&D arm is aim for technology development and solution provider for telecommunication industry and as well as to other industries that is related with the technology.

Our main objective is for pursuant of green and efficient energy generation solutions.

We are recipient of MOSTI’s Technofund grant for the development of Dual Counter Rotating (DCR) generator

DCR generator development:

  • To realize and provide an efficient DCR (Dual counter Rotating) Generator by saving fuel consumption 40% by reducing the Revolution per Minute (RPM) and to compete with conventional generators available in the market.
  • DCR Generator to reduce the Revolution per Minute (RPM) from 1500rpm to 750rpm, 3000rpm to 1500rpm with maintaining the output power.
  • Reduce the fuel / energy consumptions for input energy source

Working Principle of DCR Generator

  • The DCR Generator comprises of a first rotor and a second rotor being adapted to rotate relative to each other in opposite directions.
  • Typically, one rotor provides a magnetic field, which may be established by either a permanent magnet or by an electromagnet while the other rotor provides a conductor in which the electric current is generated upon movement of the conductor through the magnetic field.
  • Typically, the two rotors are mounted for rotation about a common axis with the two rotors positioned in an axially spaced relationship with an air gap defined there between.
